Three years ago, Meena had never held a pencil. Today she is in Class 6 and tutors the younger children at the Rampur Kalan learning centre.
When our field coordinator Priya first visited Rampur Kalan in 2023, Meena was collecting firewood with her mother while children her age were in school. Her family, daily-wage labourers, had never seen a reason to send a girl to a classroom.
The bridge school changed that. Two hours every evening, a warm meal, and a teacher who refused to give up. Within a year Meena was reading fluently in Hindi; within two she was enrolled in the government school.
Today Meena is in Class 6, first in her class in mathematics, and the youngest volunteer tutor at the centre. Her mother, Sunita Devi, now runs a tailoring unit through our Skill Her program.
“The didi who taught me said I could do anything. Now I tell the little ones the same thing.”
