“Before joining the programme, I had never imagined I could continue my education. Today, I'm preparing for college.”
— Priya Yadav
Priya was thirteen when her father asked her to leave school. Her mother was unwell, there were three younger siblings, and the family's income from their small plot barely covered food. It was not a cruel decision — it was the only one that seemed possible.
Seema, an educator at our Sitapur learning centre, noticed that Priya had stopped coming. She walked to Priya's house every evening for a month. She didn't argue. She helped with the cooking, sat with Priya's mother, and slowly, over many cups of chai, the family began to imagine a different future.
Priya rejoined in the evening batch so she could still help at home. Our scholarship covered her fees and books; her mentor helped her prepare for the state board exams. She scored 87%.
Today Priya is in her second year of a B.Sc. in Nursing — the first person in her village to study at a college. Her younger sister just started Class 9. She has no intention of leaving.
